Metal Detector is essentially an app that turns your phone into a metal detector that you can use for searching on the beach and anywhere else you might go. Though traditional metal detectors identify metal deposits like jewelry, this one looks for electromagnetic fields, which can indicate the presence of metals.

Before using this app for the first time, you must calibrate it. This requires that you use your phone away from electromagnetic fields and away from other electronics like a television or computer. Until you get the calibration down to zero, the app will send out false positive alerts.

Even if you calibrate the app, there is still a chance that it will emit false positives, which will require that you adjust its sensitivity. You can enter the main menu and experiment with the settings until it gives off true readings. The more you tweak and change those settings, the better the app will work. You should keep in mind that it won't work as effectively as a standard metal detector will. Even if you use it with a magnetic sensor, it still cannot detect certain types of metals.

There are a variety of reasons why you might download and use Metal Detector. The first is because you want to hang some pictures on your walls or do a home improvement project. With this app, you can locate the metal studs inside your walls without buying an expensive stud detector. It also comes in handy when you want to do some searching on vacation. As long as you have enough battery power to run the app, you can look for old coins, jewelry and other metal artifacts.

Each time that you use this Metal Detector app, you can hit the calibrate button to calibrate your phone for your search. It will check for magnetic and metal objects as the phone moves, and you must use your phone as a wand and keep moving it to continue with your search. The bar in the center of the screen will turn bright yellow and grow in size as you get closer to a metal object. It also emits an alarm to let you know when it finds something. If the alarm is too loud or too soft, you can adjust the volume.

While the Metal Detector app won't completely replace a traditional metal detector, it does a good job of searching for metal objects when used on most phones.
